Gabapentin is structurally similar to the neurotransmitter GABA but its mechanism of action different from other drugs that interact with GABA-receptors (valproate, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, GABA transaminase inhibitors, GABA uptake inhibitors, GABA agonists and prodrugs of GABA).
