Researchers from Stanford University (Stanford University) discovered a molecule that plays a key role in the formation of synaptic connections between nerve cells in the brain. These studies are based on experiments in mice and cell cultures and does not only increase the scientific knowledge of how the brain develops, but also can form new approaches to the treatment of mental disorders in adults.
Through this study, the researchers paleo also refined the biochemical mechanism of action of the drug gabapentin, which is marketed by Pfizer Inc. Scientists believe that it is through this mechanism achieves a reduction in the formation of synapses in the vulnerable areas of the human brain, which explains the therapeutic role of the drug in the treatment of epilepsy. Based on the results, the scientists raised the issue of the appointment of gabapentin for women during pregnancy because the drug readily passes through the placenta and can block the formation of synapses, and, consequently, paleo affects the brain development of the fetus.
