The periodontium corresponds to the set of engaging structures fixing the teeth and the jaw bones and jaw. These supporting tissues keep the teeth in the correct locations avoiding displacements and gingival recession. The mouth has a diverse population of bacteria that make up the oral microbiota, but in specific cases these bacteria give rise to inflammation that affects the periodontium, 7 in response to this activity the body performs an immune response, which depending on their degree can damage periodontal tissues; thus arise periodontal diseases.
Gingivitis is an initial inflammation that affects the gums, without interfering with dental fixing tissues (periodontal 7 ligament, cementum and alveolar bone). There may be bleeding, but without damage to the tooth position and mostly without compromising the supporting 7 tissues.
Without proper treatment, and with the advance of the disease, there is emergence 7 of periodontitis, which in turn destroys all tooth supporting tissues causing its movement through the gums and possible tooth loss.
In gingivitis inflammation occurs at the gum margin does not invade the region where the tooth is "holds" the bone. After treatment, by specific diagnosis of gingivitis which the patient is affected, healing occurs without sequelae.
In periodontitis inflammation occurs beyond the gingival margin, there is invasion of bacteria in periodontal. In this case, invariably has losing important for maintaining 7 tissue of the tooth. Such loss is directly related to the type of periodontitis and the patient has time to disease is installed.
The main evidence of periodontal disease is bleeding in the gums, swelling, change in color of this structure, which is usually pink and fime, but with the onset of the disease eventually becomes soft when pressed. If they are perceived these changes in the morphology of the gums should immediately see a dentist so that appropriate action is taken.
Gum disease can be treated and cured without sequelae to the individual, while in periodontitis no installation of tissue loss incurred. Research on animals showed tissue repair 7 through the use of certain substances, but the prevention of these diseases is the best way for keeping healthy and oral aesthetics.
It is therefore of paramount importance to proper 7 oral hygiene, flossing and frequent 7 trip to the dentist so he can find out the status of your oral health and if diagnosed a disease that is quickly remedied by avoiding further damage.
